Hey all,

Just curious if there are any photos or videos of the Local out there? I saw my first shows at that place, and my very first jam space was upstairs in that building (fun times lugging my brother's Twin Reverb up those stairs). I'm trying to remember the layout of the venue. I still have some 7"s I bought at those shows (I remember Saint John turning into a touring circuit dead zone after its closure, did we ever recover?)

I think this is the dude who ran it: http://www.uidaho.edu/cnr/frfs/anthonydavis

How's everyone doing btw? Pierre, Mike Cusak, Clinton, Gordie, Moondawg, Adam Colpitts the elder, et al?

I'm still in Montreal, my band just put out an LP:

Anthony Davis did run the venue until 1994/95, when it was rented/purchased by the folks who ran the Black Cat Coffee House. The place transformed from The Black Cat, to Zappa's, to Tapps Brewpub, within the span of a couple of years, and now it's a shoe store. It was actually a shoe store prior to becoming The Local, so I guess it's come full circle.

I have some video on VHS of Life Vine, Abuse Machine, and two other bands from 1992 lurking around somewhere. There's also some footage of Playdough Fish lurking on Facebook somewhere. Not sure if it has made it's way to YouTube yet, but I know Greg Hemmings was sharing it at one time or another.

Hey Chuck,
It would be great to see the Abuse Machine footage especially (I know Adam).
Is Greg H still in SJ?

I played one of my most memorable gigs there...it was with Liquid Light 28, back in the early 90's. One of our first out of town gigs, I think....(we were from F'ton).

Hey I totally remember seeing your band. Do you remember who else was on the bill?
Was anyone else here at the Shotmaker show?

Actually, I don't see any way to attach a file (without having it hosted somewhere)....so I guess I can't post it! But I can tell you the lineup, at least....

Pollen
Sister Sorrow
Stay
Liquid Light 28
The Degenerates

The poster also says that it was 1994.

I was at this, and pretty much every other show save one or two. Lots of good times.

Yeah that was a great show.
I remember Stay being really good. Didn't the two singer/songwriter dudes in that band splinter into another 2 groups? I think my friend Laura briefly dated the one with the shorter hair, Jon?. I remember the guy with the long hair playing in another band that did a good cover of Durango 95.
Sister Sorrow was Cam's band right?
I feel like I saw The Degenerates a bunch of time but I'm blanking on who was in them. Was that maybe the same band as Fatal Image but just with a name change?

Off topic...

I haven't been home to SJ for about five years. I'd like to visit sometime next year and hopefully play a show (and hit Backstreet natch). I haven't had a chance to see Wooden Wives live either, so hopefully I can catch them.

How's the venue sitch these days? Anything going on uptown or south end?

this is what we sound like:

I find this so interesting. I didn't start going to shows until 1997, but so many of my friends talk about the 90s hayday.

Jon Johnson was the fellow with the shorter hair - I can't recall the name of the band the formed after they split, but I think they were based out of Fredericton.

Sister Sorrow featured Jim Murphy, Chris Fudge, Shane McGovern, and a bevvy of bass players, including me in the Spring/Summer of '94. Cam was in amused - they postdate the local.

Degenerates were formerly Fatal Image, yes. The band featured (I think) Jon Hart, Jon McLaughlin, Paul LeBlanc, and Adam LeBlanc. Possibly Brad Dupuis as well. They had a demo, but I no longer have a copy.
