...the new Of Montreal album is the album I have been waiting for from Kevin Barnes. He is still a demented and depressed fellow but these new tunes are a lot more restrained and he is often singing in his natural non-falsetto voice.
The more laid-back vibe of this stuff really lets his hooks shine. He really is a GIANT in the melody writing world. I am glad he has at least one foot back on earth.

Also, a new Of Montreal thread! Just like old times GC.

Oh! I didn't realize this had leaked. Will torrent when I get home this evening. I love the first two songs they put out from this. I didn't love the third one, but many times an oM song that doesn't make sense on its own makes sense in the context of the album.

Yep. Good record. Tone everywhere. Hooks everywhere. Minimal falsetto. I hope he can get his mood sorted out so that he can make a follow up to this with a few less thematically apathetic/angsty songs.

Also, this has to be the biggest shift in sound and style album to album in the oM discography.

The Dylan influence is all over this record in a good way, but the worst songs are when he does straight up Dylan pastiches.
